Things got a little out of hand at Whiskeypaddy HQ over the Christmas.
I always pick up a more than good bottle to try when everyone calls over, and this year it was the newly crowned Irish Whiskey of the Year, the excellent Teeling Revival IV.
As the evening wore on the ould tongues began to loosen and the craic began to flow, and an impromptu tasting session was born. I brought forth these crackers, and we tried them all. Amongst them is one bottle that I absolutely hadn’t planned on opening (here’s looking at you Jameson 15 Single Pot Still), but here’s the thing. Whiskey was made for the drinking. And there’s no better way to have it than with friends and family, and talk about it like it’s the least but most important thing in the world. I don’t ever plan on selling any of my whiskies, so what’s the point in looking at the bottles?
Having said that, I’m going to someone else’s house next year who also has a very decent stash of the good stuff. And it’ll be nice to produce this photo as a reminder of my selfless hospitality and generosity, as I look through his collection….
